Lions Hire Former Texans OC George Godsey Defensive Assistant/Special Projects

The  Detroit Lions announced Tuesday that they’ve hired former Texans OC George Godsey as defensive assistant-special projects.

He interviewed for the Jets offensive coordinator vacancy before they went with Saints WRs coach John Morton.

Houston and Godsey mutually agreed to part ways last month and Texans HC Bill O’Brien has since agreed to take over as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Godsey, 38, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots back in 2011 as an offensive assistant. He worked his way up to tight ends coach before he was hired by the Texans as their quarterbacks coach in 2014. A year later, Houston elevated him to offensive coordinator.

In 2016, the Texans ranked No. 28 in total points, No. 29 in total yards, No. 8 in rushing yards and No. 29 in passing yards
