Lions Believe RB Ameer Abdullah Will Miss Rest Of Season With Torn Foot Ligament

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has a torn ligament in his left foot, and the team believes he will miss the rest of the 2016 season.

A source tells Schefter that initial X-rays on Abdullah’s foot showed no broken bones, but he later went for a second opinion with specialist Dr. Robert Anderson.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Lions are hoping that RB Ameer Abdullah can return from injured reserve after their Week 10 bye.

Detroit placed Abdullah on injured reserve last week with a sprained foot/ankle.

Previous reports had mentioned Abdullah as a candidate to be activated from the team’s injured reserve list, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Abdullah, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Lions back in 2015. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $4.156 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $573,915 for the 2016 season.

This year, Abdullah appeared in two games and ran for 101 yards on 18 carries (5.6 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 57 yards receiving and one touchdown for the Lions.
