Lions Likely To Sign DL Akiem Hicks? Bears, Jets, & Patriots Still In The Mix

Update:

Aaron Leming has been told the report of DL Akiem Hicks signing with the Lions may not be as “close” as what’s been reported.

  • Patrick Finley also mentions that the report of Hicks being close to a deal with the Lions is wrong. Finley adds that the Bears meeting with him today and are still “very much in hunt.
  • Brad Biggs reports that the Jets and Patriots are also in the mix for Hicks.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Lions are currently working to sign free agent DL Akiem Hicks to a contract.

However, La Canfora considers it likely that the Lions will be able to get Hicks under contract.

Hicks met with the Bears on Friday, but was expected to visit with the Lions tomorrow.

Hicks, 26, was traded to the Patriots in return for TE Michael Hoomanawanui back in September of last year. He played out his contract and is now among the best available free agents.

In 2015, Hicks appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and Patriots and recorded 23 tackles, three sacks, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 2016 Free Agents list.
