Lions Meeting With LB Jonathan Freeny, Saints Also Interested

Herbie Teope reports that free agent LB Jonathan Freeny is visiting with the Lions on Friday and a return to the Saints is still a possibility.

Freeny, 28, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent four years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

The Patriots signed him to a two-year contract extension coming out of the preseason in 2016 but elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason last year.

Freeny has brief stints with the Ravens and Jaguars before catching on with the Saints to finish out the year.

In 2017, Freeny appeared in six games and recorded six tackles and no sacks for interceptions.
