Lions Place LB DeAndre Levy & S Don Carey On NFI List

The Detroit Lions announced Friday that they’ve placed LB DeAndre Levy and S Don Carey on active/non-football injury list to open training camp.

Levy, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Lions back in 2009. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $37.2 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $5.25 million (2016), $5.75 million (2017), $6.25 million (2018), and $6.75 million (2019) over the remainder of the agreement.

Last year, Levy’s season was cut short due to a hip injury he suffered, which led to him being placed on season-ending injured reserve after just one game.

In 2014, Levy recorded 151 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, five pass defenses and a safety for the Lions over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 3 outside linebacker in 4-3 defense out of 40 qualifying players.

Carey, 29, is in the final year of his four-year, $2.98 million contract that included an $800,000 signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $760,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Carey appeared in all 16 games for the Lions and recorded 20 tackles, no interceptions or pass defenses and one fumble recovery.
