Lions RB Ameer Abdullah Visiting Foot Specialist To See If He Can Begin Practicing

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (foot, injured reserve) will visit with Dr. Robert Anderson on Tuesday to see if he can begin practicing this week.

According to Rapoport, it’s realistic to think Abdullah could be active in three weeks.

While it seemed like LB Jon Bostic was going to be the obvious player to bring back from injured reserve, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press mentioned a few days ago that waiting for Abdullah to return from his foot injury could have a larger impact in the end, even if they wouldn’t get him back until later on in the year.

Bostic and Abdullah are really the only candidates to return from injured reserve, so we’ll have to see which way they elect to go in the coming weeks.

Abdullah, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Lions back in 2015. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $4.156 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $573,915 for the 2016 season.

This year, Abdullah appeared in two games and ran for 101 yards on 18 carries (5.6 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 57 yards receiving and one touchdown for the Lions.

We’ll have more regarding a potential return for Abdullah as the news is available.
