Lions Re-Sign TE Matthew Mulligan, Place DE Armonty Bryant On Suspended List

The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday that they’ve re-signed veteran TE Matthew Mulligan and placed TE Cole Wick on injured reserve.

Beyond that, DE Armonty Bryant has been suspended three games for violating the NFL’s substances of abuse policy. The Lions have placed him on the reserve/suspended list.

Mulligan, 31, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Maine back in 2008. Since then, he’s played for several teams including the Titans, Jets, Rams, Packers, Patriots, Bears, and Cardinals.

The Bills elected to sign him to a contract last summer, but he lasted until December before he was waived to make room for Nick O’Leary. The Lions signed him to a contract back in April but was released in the final week of the preseason.

In 2015, Mulligan appeared in 12 games for the Bills and totaled a single reception for two years receiving.

Bryant, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Browns back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.221 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season.

The Browns elected to waive him recently and was claimed by the Lions earlier in the week after severing a suspension to open the year.

In 2016, Bryant has appeared in four games for the Lions and recorded five tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
