Lions Re-Sign TE Tim Wright, Waive TE Brandon Barnes

The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday that they’ve re-signed TE Tim Wright and placed TE Brandon Barnes on waivers.

Wright, 27, wound up signing on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2013. He spent a year in Tampa Bay before he was traded to the Patriots in a deal for G Logan Mankins.

The Patriots waived Wright a year later and he returned to the Buccaneers after they claimed off of waivers. Interestingly enough, the Buccaneers managed to trade Wright for a second time in August of last year to the Lions in return for K Kyle Brindza.

Detroit elected to re-sign Wright to a one-year, $675,000 contract back in March, but he was waived with an injury designation and later placed on the team’s injured reserve list.

In 2015, Wright appeared in nine games for the Lions and caught nine passes for 77 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
