Lions Release CB Chris Houston

The Lions announced Friday that they have released veteran CB Chris Houston with an injury settlement.

Houston, 29, was entering the second year of his five-year, $25 million contract that included $9.5 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $3.5 million for the 2014 season.

The Lions appear to be comfortable moving forward with second-year CB Darius Slay, Bill Bentley and veteran Rashean Mathis as their top-three options.

Last year, he appeared in 12 games for the Lions and recorded 44 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 96 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players in 2013.
