Lions Release RB Reggie Bush

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Detroit Lions have released veteran RB Reggie Bush.

Bush’s name had come up as a potential cap casualty in recent months given that they need to figure out a way to retain free agent DT Ndamukong Suh.

Bush, 29, signed a four-year, $16 million contract that included a $4 million signing bonus back in March of 2013. He had base salaries of $3.25 million and $3.75 million coming his way in the final two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Bush will free up $1,722,058 in cap space for the Lions while creating $3,555,883 in dead money.

In 2014, Bush ran for 297 yards on 76 carries (3.9 YPC) to go along with 40 receptions for 253 yards receiving and two total touchdowns over the course of 11 games. Pro Football Focus has Bush rated as the No. 14 running back in the league last year out of 57 qualifying players.
