Lions Release Veteran CB Drayton Florence

The Detroit Lions have released veteran CB Drayton Florence just 12 days after signing him to a contract, according to Tim Twentyman.

Recent indications were that Florence was unlikely to make the team, which probably shouldn’t come as much of surprise given that he was signed to a contract so late in the offseason.

Detroit is likely to move forward with CBs Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay as their starters this season.

Florence, 33, is coming off of a productive season in which he appeared in 14 games and totaled 26 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defensed.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 19 cornerback in the league. We had Florence listed as the No. 7 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
