Lions Release Veteran OT Lamar Holmes, Sign DL Louis Palmer

The Detroit Lions announced Friday that they’ve released veteran OT Lamar Holmes and signed undrafted rookie DL Louis Palmer to a contract.

Holmes, 26, was taken in third round of the 2012. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $2.633 million rookie contract before the Falcons placed Holmes on the PUP list at the start of the season and later cut him loose with an injury settlement towards the end of the year.

Holmes found interest from the Jets, Dolphins and Cowboys before eventually signing a future/reserve contract with the Lions.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $600,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2014, Holmes was limited to appearing in just four games for the Falcons.
