Lions Release Veteran RB Stevan Ridley

The Detroit Lions announced the release of veteran RB Stevan Ridley on Thursday.

There had been some talk that Ridley could be the odd-man out in the Lions’ backfield in the coming weeks, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Ridley, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract before signing a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Jets back in April of last year.

The Lions signed Ridley to a one-year contract this past April.

In 2015, Ridley ran for 90 yards on 36 carries (2.5 YPC) to go along with four receptions for -minus two yards receiving and no touchdowns.
