Lions Roster Cuts Including Veteran G Geoff Schwartz

The Detroit Lions have begun the process of trimming their roster down to 75 players. Here’s the full list of roster cuts up to this point:

  1. LB Dominique Tovell
  2. CB Brandon McGee
  3. G Geoff Schwartz
  4. CB Crezdon Butler
  5. TE Matthew Mulligan
  6. WR Quinshad Davis
  7. OG Chase Farris
  8. DE Quanterus Smith
  9. DE Louis Palmer
  10. DE Deonte Gibson
  11. CB Rashaad Reynolds
  12. K Devon Bell

Other roster moves include:

Ian Rapoport notes that the Lions will receive the conditional seventh-round pick they traded for Bostic, since he did not compete in eight games last season.

McGee, 25, was taken by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft. He was unfortunately among the team’s roster cuts last year, but later returned to the Rams’ practice squad.

Unfortunately, the Rams cut McGee loose midseason and later signed to to the Giants’ practice squad before the Cowboys gave him a one-year, future/reserve contract in January.

McGee was placed on I.R. close a few months ago after he cleared waivers. The Cowboys later waived him with an injury settlement. McGee just signed on with Detroit last week.

In 2015, McGee was active for just a single game and did not record a statistic.

Schwartz, 29, was in the third year of his four-year, $16.8 million contract that included $6.2 million guaranteed he he was released in a move that freed up $2,991,666 in available cap space for the Giants.

The Lions later signed him to a contract back in late March.

In 2015, Schwartz was limited to appearing in 11 games for the Giants. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
