Lions & S Glover Quin Discussing Contract Extension

Lions S Glover Quin mentioned that his agents are in talks with Detroit regarding a long-term contract extension and he’s hoping to get something done before the start of the season, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Quin mentioned that he would like to have an opportunity to finish out his career with the Lions.

“I’ve played going on five years here, good majority of my career,” Quin said. “Some of my better years. My growth. So to kind of get to finish up here, obviously it’s not where I started but it was a team that accepted me, brought me in, allowed me to play the way I knew that I could always play, so to get an opportunity to finish here would be excellent.

Overall, Quin believes he has another “three or four more high-level years” left in him.

Quin, 31, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2009. After four years in Houston, Quinn signed a five-year, $23.5 million contract with the Lions in March of 2013.

Quin is currently in the final year of his contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.4 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Quin appeared in all 16 games for the Lions and recorded 68 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 safety out of 90 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a new deal for Quin as the news is available.
