Lions Sign DE Corey Wootton To A One-Year Contract

The Detroit Lions have signed DE Corey Wootton to a one-year contract on Thursday, according his agent Mike McCartney.

  • Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions signed Wootton to a one-year contract worth the veteran minimum.
  • Wootton receives an $80,000 signing bonus to go along with a portion of his base salary guaranteed.

Wootton tried out for the Lions earlier in the week, so he was clearly on their radar as a potential free agent addition.

The Saints and Titans previously brought Wootton in for workouts, but no contract was extended to him after the meetings.

Wootton, 27, is a former fourth round pick of the Bears back in 2010. He wound up playing out his rookie contract with the team before signing a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Vikings last March.

In 2014, Wootton, appeared in 15 games for Minnesota and recorded 16 tackles, one sacks and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 55 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.
