Lions Sign DE George Johnson, Waive DE Alex Barrett

The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday that they’ve re-signed DE George Johnson and waived DE Alex Barrett.

Johnson, 29, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2010. After a brief stint with the Vikings, the Lions signed Johnson to a contract back in April of 2014.

Detroit later traded him to the Buccaneers in return for a 2015 fifth-round pick that ultimately became Michael Burton. However, Tampa Bay elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Johnson missed the entire 2016 season after he was placed on injured reserve with a fractured hip.

In 2015, Johnson appeared in 11 games and recorded 23 tackles, no sacks, two forced fumbles and a recovery for the Buccaneers.
