Lions Sign LB Brandon Chubb To Futures Deal

The Detroit Lions announced Thursday that they’ve signed LB Brandon Chubb to a future/reserve contract.

Chubb becomes the 10th player to sign a futures deal with the Lions since their season ended. The full list includes:

  1. WR Jared Abbrederis (NFLTR)
  2. TE Kennard Backman
  3. RB Mike James
  4. TE Khari Lee
  5. LB Steve Longa
  6. OL Matt Rotheram
  7. OL Brandon Thomas
  8. WR Andrew Turzilli
  9. DB Charles Washington
  10. LB Brandon Chubb

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.

Chubb, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest back in May. He was, unfortunately, unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later signed to the team’s practice squad.

Los Angeles elected to cut Chubb loose a few weeks into the regular season and he later signed on to the Lions’ practice squad. Chubb was cut loose to make room for Logan Thomas but was re-signed to the practice squad just a couple days later.

Chubb has yet to appear in an NFL game.
