Lions Sign OL Garrett Reynolds, Waive OT J.B. Shugarts

Chad Speck, the agent for OL Garrett Reynolds, announced via his Twitter account Thursday that his client has signed with the Lions.

  • The Lions waived OT J.B. Shugarts to make room for Reynolds, according to the NFL transactions release.

Reynolds, 26, was cut loose by the Falcons back in February in a move that freed up $1.385 million in cap space. He lost his starting job twice this past season, and after the Falcons signed former first-round pick Gabe Carimi, Reynolds became expendable.

The Cowboys brought him in for a workout back in June, but nothing ever came of the visit.

Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 31 guard in the league out of 81 qualifying players. However, his pass and run-protecting ratings are closer to the average. Reynolds benefited from decent screen-blocking ratings and a lack of penalties.

Shugarts, 24, signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State back in 2012. He would later join the Cowboys and Jets, but he was ultimately released by New York in September of last year.
