The Detroit Lions announced Thursday that they’ve signed P Ryan Santoso and RB Kerwynn Williams to futures contracts for the 2019 season.
As of now, the Lions have signed 9 players to futures deals including:
- WR Deontez Alexander
- LB Garret Dooley
- S David Jones
- OL Jarron Jones
- DE Jonathan Wynn
- QB Connor Cook
- RB Mark Thompson
- RB Kerwynn Williams
- P Ryan Santoso
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Williams, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Colts back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Indianapolis before signing on to the Chargers’ practice squad.
The Cardinals would later sign him to their own practice squad and he spent the past four years in Arizona. Williams signed on with the Chiefs in April of last year but was waived coming out of the preseason.
In 2017, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and rushed for 426 yards on 120 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with 10 receptions for 93 yards receiving and one touchdown. He also contributed 326 kick return yards and 137 punt return yards.
