Lions Signing DL Datone Jones

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Lions are signing former Packers DE Datone Jones to a contract on Tuesday.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in March but he was, unfortunately, placed on injured reserve and later released with a settlement.

In 2016, Jones appeared in 15 games for the Packers and recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
