Lions Tried Out Four Free Agents

According to Howard Balzer, the Detroit Lions brought in four free agents for visits or workouts this week including LB Jonathan Freeny.

The full list of tryouts for the Lions includes:

  1. LB Jonathan Freeny
  2. LB Kelvin Sheppard
  3. CB Jalen Myrick
  4. DE Alex Barrett (visit)

Of this group, the Lions signed Sheppard to their active roster.

Freeny, 28, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent four years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

The Patriots signed him to a two-year contract extension coming out of the preseason in 2016 but elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason last year.

Freeny has brief stints with the Ravens and Jaguars before catching on with the Saints to finish out the year. The Colts signed him back in March but waived him as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit.

He worked out for the Saints last month but left his meeting without a contract.

In 2017, Freeny appeared in six games and recorded six tackles and no sacks for interceptions.
