Lions “Very Serious” About Trading Up For WR Sammy Watkins?

After speaking with Clemson WR Sammy Watkins on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport reports that the Lions have “made it clear” they are “very serious” about possibly trading up for him on Thursday

Earlier today, Rapoport reported that the Bills and Lions are both looking to trade up into the top-five, but added that both teams are looking for a bargain to do so.

The idea of Detroit moving up for Watkins first surfaced over a month ago, so this really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. The Lions have done plenty of work on Watkins and a number of other players who are considered to be top-10 picks.

As things stand right now, the Lions have the No. 10 overall pick, so it would probably require them to part with a mid-round pick to move up into the top-five.

Last year, the Dolphins sent the Raiders the No. 12 and No. 42 overall picks to trade up to No. 3 and draft DE/OLB Dion Jordan, so I’m sure this is being used by the Lions as a precedent for a move up.

The Raiders could be a team to watch given that they have made it clear that they would like to acquire some additional picks.

We have Watkins going to the Raiders at No. 5 overall in our recently updated 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
