Lions Waive FB Michael Burton

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions have placed FB Michael Burton on waivers Tuesday to make room for newly signed RB Matt Asiata.

It appears as though the Lions could be moving on from having a fullback as part of their offense for the 2016 season, as Burton was the only player at the position on their roster.

This does, however, open the possibility for them to keep another running back on their 53-man roster to open the season.

Burton, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Lions back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.46 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the remainder of the contract.

In 2016, Burton appeared in 15 games but didn’t receive a single carry. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 95 total snaps last year.
