Lions Waive P Kyle Christy, Sign Undrafted K Devon Bell

The Detroit Lions announced Thursday they’ve placed P Kyle Christy on waivers and signed undrafted rookie K Devon Bell to a contract.

The Lions will now have a competition between Christy and  Sam Martin this summer.

Christy signed on with the Lions in the days leading up to this year’s draft. This was Christy’s first opportunity with an NFL team.

During his four years at the University of Florida, Christ was a first-team All-American selection in 2012 and totaled 7,914 yards on 181 punts (43.7 average).

Bell wound up going undrafted out of Mississippi State over a month ago. He began his college career as a kicker, converting 66.7 percent of his attempts and 43 of 44 extra point tries during his freshman year. Bell later converted to punter and totaled 3,315 yards on 78 attempts (42.5 average) over the course of three seasons.
