Lions Waive TE Kellen Davis, Promote G Rodney Austin

Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com reports that the team has signed G Rodney Austin to their active roster and waived veteran TE Kellen Davis in a corresponding move.

The Lions signed Davis to a contract close to a month ago, but has been limited to appearing in three games.

Davis, 28, signed on with the Seahawks last year, but he lasted until March before he was ultimately cut loose. He would later sign a deal with the Giants, however, Davis was among their roster cuts a few months ago.

Last year, Davis appeared in 15 games and caught three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.

The addition of Austin to their active roster likely has something to do with the knee sustained by LT Riley Reiff during Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. Reiff is expected to be fine, but they could use some offensive line depth.
