According to Justin Rodgers of MLive.com, the Detroit Lions are postponing contract extension talks with QB Matthew Stafford.
Rodgers mentions that team president Tom Lewand wants to delay the contract talks so that they do not become a distraction for Stafford and the team.
“We’ve still got discussion to have, but at some point in time, will either get a deal done, or we’ll focus on football,” said Lewand “The good news there is that we’ve got a great relationship. I think Matt has a lot of confidence that we want him to be our quarterback for a long time and we have a lot of confidence that Matt wants to be here for a long time.”
While the Lions and Stafford both want to get a deal done, Stafford has two-years left on his rookie contract which he signed in 2009 which doesn’t mean either side has to rush to get anything done. Expect the Lions to resume extension talks next offseason so they do not have a situation the Ravens had with QB Joe Flacco.
