Lions Won’t Franchise DT Ndamukong Suh

Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com reports that the Detroit Lions will not place their franchise tag on free agent DT Ndamukong Suh.

When you consider that it would have cost the Lions $26.87 million to use their franchise tag on him next year, this is really an easy decision for Detroit.

The Lions had said that they were open to using the franchise tag if they were unable to get a long-term contract in place, but insiders around the league considered that to be an unlikely option.

Suh is well positioned to cash in big-time over the next few weeks. While teams like the Raiders and Jaguars are expected to have serious interest in Suh, a return to Detroit can’t be ruled out at this point in time.

Suh, 27, is arguably the best available player in this year’s free agent class and should set the bar for defensive linemen when all is said and done.

In 2014, he recorded 51 tackles, 8.5 sacks and three pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the league.

We have Suh ranked as the No. 2 player in our Top 100 Free Agents List.
