Lions Won’t Tender RFA LB Josh Bynes, But Hoping To Re-Sign Him

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions have informed restricted free agent LB Josh Bynes that they won’t be extending him a tender this offseason.

  • However, Birkett adds that the Lions would still like to re-sign him at some point.

The Lions signed Bynes off of the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad back in September of last year after they lost veteran MLB Stephen Tulloch to a season-ending ACL injury.

He had ties to Lions DC Teryl Austin given that they worked together in Baltimore, so it was a fairly obvious move for Detroit.

Bynes, 25, signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in 2011.

Last year, appeared in 13 games and recorded 22 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
