Lions Work Out Kickers Rob Bironas, Alex Henery, & Garrett Hartley On Tuesday

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Lions hosted a number of veteran kickers for workouts on Tuesday including Rob Bironas, Alex Henery, and Garrett Hartley.

This comes as little surprise given that rookie Nate Freese has struggled mightily in just two games. He’s already missed three of five field goal attempts and wasn’t exactly all that impressive during this summer’s kicking competition with Giorgio Tavecchio.

Bironas, 36, was cut loose by the Titans back in March. He worked out for the Buccaneers back in early August but nothing came from the visit.

Last year, Bironas converted 86.2 precent of his attempts making 5 of 7 from 40-49 yards and 2 of 3 from over 50 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 25 kicker in 213.

Henery was cut loose by the Eagles last weekend as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Henery ultimately lost the starting job rookie Cody Parkey. He worked out for the Jaguars in recent weeks.

Henery, 27, converted 1 of 3 field goal attempts this preseason. Last year, Henery was successful on 82.1 percent of his field goal attempts and made one of two tries from at least 50 yards.

Hartley had spent five seasons with the Saints before he was released in December of last year. In 2013, he converted on 22 of 30 attempts, in what amounted to be his worst season.
