Lions Worked Out OT Laurence Gibson & DT Cliff Matthews

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Lions brought in OT Laurence Gibson, OT Sam Young and DT Cliff Matthews for workouts on Friday.

Gibson, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Cowboys back in May of last year. He lasted just a few months in Dallas before he was among their roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

The Chiefs later signed him to their practice squad at the start of the year and brought him back on a future/reserve deal in January. However, he was unfortunately placed on waivers shortly after this year’s draft.

Gibson later signed on with the Falcons before he was unfortunately cut loose coming out of the preseason. The Bears later signed him to their practice squad.

Gibson has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Matthews, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Falcons back in 2011. He had finished out his rookie contract last year when he signed a two-year extension with the Falcons.

However, Matthews was unfortunately among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. The Buccaneers elected to sign him to a future/reserve contract this past February, but he was later among the team’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

In 2014, he appeared in seven games and totaled six tackles (four solo) on defense and adding three special teams tackles.
