Lions Worked Out 8 Players Including DTs Kenrick Ellis & Jerel Worthy

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Lions brought in eight players for workouts on Wednesday.

As we mentioned last night, free agent running backs Bryce Brown, Travaris Cadet, and Daniel Thomas were among this group.

However, the Lions also worked out DL Joe Vellano, OT Cameron Clear, DT Kenrick Ellis, DT Ishmaa’ily Kitchen, and DT Jerel Worthy.

Ellis, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He signed a one-year, $1.475 million contract with the Giants back in March, but wound up being released  after they claimed DT Louis Nix off of waivers from the Texans.

Since then, Ellis has been on and off of the Giants’ active roster.

In 2014, he appeared in 14 games for the Jets and recorded 12 tackles and a sack. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 158 snaps last year, but he did grade out as a solid run-stopper.

Worthy, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2012. However, he lasted just two years in Green Bay and sustained a serious knee. Upon returning, the Packers traded him to the Patriots for a conditional draft pick, but he was unfortunately cut loose.

Since then, Worthy has had brief stints with the Chiefs and Lions. He worked out for the Buccaneers a few weeks ago.

Worthy hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season when he was still playing for the Packers.
