According to Justin Rodgers, the Lions brought in free agent tight ends David Ausberry and Gabe Hughes for workouts late last week.
Ausberry, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Raiders back in 2011. He wound up playing out his rookie contract with Oakland before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Detroit later signed him to a contract back in June of last year but he was unfortunately placed on injured reserve during the preseason and later released with an injury settlement.
In 2014, Ausberry appeared in six games for the Raiders and caught two passes for 14 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has Ausberry down for playing just 36 total snaps last season.
