Lions Worked Out WR Nelson Spruce

According to Howard Balzer, the Carolina Panthers brought in free agent WR Nelson Spruce for a tryout earlier this week.

Spruce, 25, joined the Rams as an undrafted rookie out of Colorado back in May and was able to make the team’s 53-man roster. He was signed to a three-year, $1.62 million contract and is earning a base salary of $4500 this season.

The Rams placed Spruce on injured reserve during the season before eventually designating him to return in December. Los Angeles waived Spruce with an injury designation coming out of the preseason before later being waived with an injury settlement.

The Bears signed Spruce to their practice squad back in October but waived him a few weeks later.

During his four-year college career at Colorado, he accumulated 294 receptions for 3,347 yards receiving and 23 touchdowns.
