Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the Lions are bringing in free agent RB Matt Asiata for a workout at some point in the near future.
This is the first reported interest in Asiata since the free agent market opened a few months ago.
A recent report connected the Lions to free agent RB LeGarrette Blount (NFLTR), so it does appear as though Detroit is in the market for a larger running back.
Asiata, 29, wound up signing on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Utah back in 2011. He has been playing under one-year contracts the past three seasons and is currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
In 2016, Asiata appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and rushed for 402 yards on 121 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 33 receptions for 263 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.
