Lions Working Out Free Agent Punters Including Drew Butler & Jeff Locke

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions are working out free agent punters Monday including Matt Darr, Drew Butler, Jeff Locke and Richie Leone.

Lions P Kasey Redfern, unfortunately, got hurt during Sunday’s win over the Cardinals, which led to Matt Prater taking over punting duties for the remainder of the game.

Butler, 28, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in 2012. Since then, Butler has played for the Bears and Lions before catching on with the Cardinals as a free agent at the start of the 2014 season.

The Cardinals brought Butler back on an exclusive rights contract but was later waived with an injury settlement. Arizona re-signed him once again back in November of last year only to cut him loose a month later.

In 2016, Butler has appeared in seven games and totaled 1,140 punt yards on 32 attempts and no touchbacks.

Locke, 27, if a former fifth-round pick by the Vikings in the 2013 NFL Draft. He finished his four-year rookie contract with Minnesota and reportedly had several teams interested in him this offseason.

The Colts signed Lock to a two-year, $3.45 million deal with $1.25 million in guaranteed this past March. Unfortunately, the Colts cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Locke appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 74 punts for 2,946 yards and three touchbacks.
