Lions Working Out CB Dimitri Patterson, Champ Bailey Still An Option

The Detroit Lions lost CB Bill Bentley for the season this week and have already begun the process of adding some depth at cornerback.

Dave Brikett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions are hosting veteran CB Dimitri Patterson for a workout on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, HC Jim Caldwall didn’t rule out the idea of signing veteran CB Champ Bailey and said that it’s “possible” they will sign either cornerback or a safety in the coming days, per Michael Rothstein.

Patterson, 30, skipped the Jets third preseason game, but publicly denied that he didn’t show for the game because he was upset with the depth chart, which had been previously reported. New York suspended him and later cut him loose as they trimmed their roster.

Patterson, 30, was release by the Dolphins earlier in the offseason. The Jets signed him to a one-year contract worth $3 million back in April. Last year, Miami placed him on season-ending injured reserve with a groin injury back in December. He totaled 19 tackles, one sack and four interceptions for the Dolphins last season.

Bailey, 36, recently worked out for the Lions, so he’s clearly on their radar. He signed a two-year contract with New Orleans earlier in the offseason, but was among their final roster cuts a few weeks ago.

Last yaer, he appeared in just five games last year due to a foot injury and recorded 14 tackles to go along with three passes defensed.
