Panthers GM Dave Gettleman mentioned during a radio interview with Alex Marvez that the odds of re-signing DE Greg Hardy to a long-term contract have improved now that the free agent market has settled down.
- Gettleman added that their future cap situation has also become clearer in recent days.
The Panthers placed their franchise tag on Hardy a few weeks ago and he wasted no time signing the one-year franchise tender worth $13.116 million fully guaranteed.
Hardy, 25, is widely expected to be targeting massive contract that could come close to Charles Johnson‘s six-year, $78 million deal.
The fact that QB Cam Newton is also in position to secure a long-term contract could complicate the situation some, but it appears as though Gettleman is confident they make the numbers work.
Last year, Hardy totaled 59 tackles, 15 sacks and a forced fumble for Carolina.
