Long-time Bears LB Lance Briggs announced Wednesday that he’s retiring from the NFL to take a position with CSN Chicago.

As a free agent, Briggs visited with the 49ers several months ago, but found very little reported interest beyond that.

Briggs, 34, is a former third-round pick of the Bears back in 2003. He spent all 12 years of his NFL career in Chicago.

Briggs finishes his career with 936 tackles, 15 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, seven recoveries, 16 interceptions, 86 pass defenses and six defensive touchdowns. Briggs was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was an All-Pro first-team selection in 2005.

Last year, Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 outside linebacker in a 4-3 system.
