Lovie Smith: Buccaneers Not Looking Trade Any Players

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith told reporters on Monday that they aren’t looking to trade any of their players.

We’re not trying to shop any of our players,” Smith said, per Rick Stroud.

Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Buccaneers have received a “tons” of calls regarding WR Vincent Jackson‘s availability.

“They are getting a ton of calls on him,” Rapoport said. “With just one win, I’m told they are open to anything even though they love him as a player.”

With the Buccaneers really struggling across the board this year, you would have to think that they would consider parting ways with a high-paid veteran if they can secure a solid return or package of draft picks for him.

Although, Smith could be right about their intentions to stand pat and see if they can get back into the race in an underwhelming NFC South division.

Jackson, 31, is in the third year of his  five-year, $55,555,555 contract that includes $26 million guaranteed. He’ll make base salaries of $10 million, $9,777,777, and $9,777,778 over the final three years of his contract.

So far this season, Jackson has caught 25 passes for 344 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of six games.
