Lovie Smith Confirms That Josh McCown Is Their Starting QB

During the press conference to introduce new Buccaneers QB Josh McCown, HC Lovie Smith, asked if McCown was his quarterback.

Smith has been standoffish regarding 2012 second-round pick Mike Glennon being the team’s starter next year, so this should come as a huge surprise.

The Buccaneers signed two-year contract worth a total of $10 million, but could climb to maximum of $15 million if he reaches playtime incentives, which includes a $3 million bonus for making the playoffs.

McCown resurrected his career under Bears HC Marc Trestman last year, and was one of the best available quarterbacks in this year’s free agent class.

In 2013, McCown completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,829 yards to go along with 13 touchdowns and just a single interception.
