49ers Place Rookie RB Marcus Lattimore On PUP List

Ian Rapoport reports that the San Francisco 49ers have placed RB Marcus Lattimore on the reserve/PUP list.

  • Rapoport adds that the team is keeping the door open for a possible return at some point this season, but believes that it’s ultimately “unlikely.

Lattimore will miss at least the first six games of the 2013 season. This was expected all along, so we’ll have to see if anything changes as the season plays out.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore is not expected to play for the 49ers this season.

There was some optimism that Lattimore could suit up for San Francisco last in the season, but it appears as though 2013 will be a red-shirt year for him.

Lattimore, 21, was taken in the fourth-round of this year’s draft, despite suffering a major knee injury while at South Carolina last year. The injury required multiple surgeries and, given the depth that the 49ers have, it probably makes sense to ensure that his knee is fully recovered before allowing him to see game-action.
