Mario Manningham & Kenny Britt Could Be An Options For The Panthers

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer mentions that free agent WR Mario Manningham could be an option for the Panthers to consider now that the pool of available receivers is starting to diminish.

  • Steelers free agent WR Jerricho Cotchery will visit the Panthers on Monday, but Person mentions that he now has a “lot more leverage” with James Jones signing with the Raiders earlier in the day.
  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Panthers have interest in free agent WR Kenny Britt.

Manningham, 27, left the Giants two years ago when signed a two-year contract worth $7.375 million with the 49ers, so Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is familiar with him as a receiver.

He appeared in just 18 games over the course of two years in San Francisco, which is largely due to a season knee injury he suffered back in 2012.

Cotchery, 31, has been a surprisingly effective player for the Steelers. Last year, he totaled 46 receptions for 602 yards receiving and a staggering 10 touchdowns for Pittsburgh.

Britt, 25, is coming off of another hugely disappointing season for the Titans. Last year, he appeared in 12 games and totaled just 11 receptions for 96 yards and no touchdowns.

At this point in his career, it seems very likely that he’ll have to sign a one-year contract and work to improve his free agent stock next season. A change of scenery could probably do him some good.

We have Britt listed as the No. 29 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
