Report: Mark Sanchez Doesn’t Want To Be Traded To The Rams

Update:

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that Eagles backup QB Mark Sanchez does not want to be traded to the Rams and be reunited with former OC Brian Schottenheimer.

A person with knowledge of Sanchez’s thinking tells Pelissero that “no chance” he would give up his fresh start in Philadelphia if he had a say in the matter.

Ian Rapoport, citing a source informed of the situation, reports that the Rams have “some interest” in Sanchez. Although, there isn’t much the report and Rapoport also admits that it would likely be expensive for the Rams to acquire Sanchez via a trade.

  • Rapoport adds that the plan for St. Louis is to open the season with Shaun Hill as their starter.
  • Rapoport also points out that the Rams signed Hill over Sanchez this offseason.

It will be interesting to see what the Rams elect to do at quarterback now that Sam Bradford is done for the season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that despite some initial optimism that Rams QB Sam Bradford dodged a bullet” regarding his ACL, there is now “real concern” that the ligament could be torn.

Losing Bradford to a knee injury for the second straight year would be a fairly big blow to the Rams, and despite signing veteran backup QB Shaun Hill this offseason, there is a chance they could look to the trade market for a solution if Bradford is out for a long period of time.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network mentions that the trade target that would probably make the most sense for the Rams would be Eagles backup Mark Sanchez.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan points out that Sanchez has spent three years in Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer’s offensive system, so there is an obvious connection there.

Eagles HC Chip Kelly was recently asked what they would do in the event another team contacted them about Sanchez to which Kelly replied: “What are you giving me?

“I mean, we’ll listen to anything for anybody,” Kelly said, via CSNPhilly.com. “We’re not just going to put our head in the sand and say no. It better be a pretty good deal in terms of what it is. But that’s not in any of our thought process.

Sanchez, 27, signed a one-year contract worth $2.25 million, despite finding a decent amount of interest after the Jets cut him loose.

He’s put together a pretty impressive preseason thus far, but the Eagles have said that they are very happy with him being their backup quarterback this season, so there’s no guarantee they would be willing to include him in a trade.

We’ll have more updates regarding Bradford’s status as the news is available.

    • Right on, Masta P! The rejection of Tebow to quarterback in the NFL is a big mistake by teams. Tebow is winner! So what if his windup and delivery is not acceptable according to standard belief, put the guy in a game, even late, and he will score and win some games. SO if the NFL is afraid that with his arm so far back is could be easily caught by the defense. So what kind of offensive lines should you have? Ones that can BLOCK pass rushers!!
