Mark Sanchez Optimistic That He & Holmes Will Make It Work

The drama caused by Jets WR Santonio Holmes‘s performance on Sunday has been a dominate headline throughout the week but the as we’ve already mentioned, the Jets have very little options when it comes to Holmes.

Mark Sanchez, appearing on the “Michael Kay Show” on ESPN 1050 Radio, seemed to be optimistic that he and Holmes will be able to work things out next season.

“Anytime I get discouraged about it, I just flip on his highlight tape, the first year he came to us, after missing the first four games, and how much production he had,” said Sanchez. “It’s in there. I know that ability is in there.”

We’re going to make things work,” Sanchez noted. “I’m the quarterback of the New York Jets and it’s my job to do my very best with all the players we have and to get the best out of everybody. It’ll be a good challenge for me, but I’m excited about it.”

Sanchez has been good at saying the right things but the pressure that will be on him next season will more than at any point in his career. We already posted that there’s an outside chance that the Jets may consider Peyton Manning if he becomes available so next season is shaping up to be a make or break season for the “Sanchize.

  1. The Jets will be a “Team on Fire” after last seasons frustrations. 2010 and 2011 saw many key players leave the team who helped them reach back to back championship games. With the lock-out it was too much to overcome and caused the team to make changes starting with the OC who never had a playoff caliber offense with three QB’s and some very good talent. The WR coach was replaced, the OL coach and the DL coach as well. Rex Ryan has his own staff now and a pocket full of draft picks as well as being 8 plus mil. under the cap. This team should rebound big in 2012. Look for aging Vets to be shown the door as the young group retools for another title run and continues to get better as they use the frustrating season of 2011 to motivate them to bigger and better things.
