Marques Colston’s Contract Turning Out To Be A Mistake?

Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network mentioned that the New Orleans Saints might be regretting the contract extension that they handed out to WR Marques Colston, now that he’s off to a poor start this season.

“Right now, no team has a problem playing man-to-man on Marques Colston,” Lombardi said, via Rotoworld.com. “No team has a problem going against the Saints’ receivers. They don’t explode, they don’t run fast. … Without free access, you’ve gotta be able to get open. And if you can’t get open, all of a sudden that $40 million becomes a bad contract.”

The team re-signed Colston to a five year, $36.3 million contract, but Colston has yet to produce anywhere near that level. He has only 10 catches for 160 yards, 0 touchdown and one lost fumble in the span of three games.

  1. guess who doubled his season production this weekend… that’s right Marques Colston 9 receptions for 153 yards & 1 TD.

    • Haha! Colston’s breakout game makes this idea look a little premature to say the least. What’s interesting is that Colston seems to really have the Packers number. GB shifted their focus to covering Jimmy Graham after the 1st quarter which left Colston in very favorable situations and he capitalized greatly.
