Marshawn Lynch’s Chronic Back Issues Will Be A Major Factor In Him Returning

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Friday that Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch has chronic back issues that will be a “major factor” when it comes to returning next season.

According to Rapoport, Lynch is specifically dealing with compressed cartilage in his back, which happens to be something that only get worse in the coming years.

Of course, Lynch’s running style probably doesn’t help matters given the number of hits he takes over the course of a game.

The Seahawks have made it to back-to-back Super Bowls which means Lynch has played in 38 games in the past two seasons.

Seattle has reportedly offered Lynch a new contract that would pay him more than $10 million in 2015.

Lynch, 28, has one year remaining on his current four-year, $31 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $5 million next year to go along with his $8.5 million cap figure.

Lynch finished the 2014 season with 1,306 rushing yards, a career high 13 rushing touchdowns, and four touchdown receptions. In fact, Lynch has eclipsed 1,200 rushing yards in each of the past four seasons. In addition, Pro Football Focus rated Lynch as the No. 2 overall running back in 2014.

We’ll have more updates regarding Lynch being back next year as the news is available.
