Martavis Bryant Facing Year-Long Suspension For Substance Abuse Violation

Adam Schefter reports that former Steelers and Raiders WR Martavis Bryant is facing a year-long suspension for his latest violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

According to Schefter, the NFL is currently reviewing the matter and could issue a ruling as soon as this week.

Schefter says that it’s possible that a third suspension in four years for Bryant could end his NFL career and it would be a challenge for Bryant to return from another suspension.

Bryant, 26, was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

Bryant was suspended for the entire 2016 season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy and returned to the team coming out of the preseason last year.

The Steelers traded Bryant to the Raiders in return for the No. 79 overall pick of the third round this offseason. However, the Raiders released him coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Bryant appeared in 15 games for the Steelers and caught 50 passes for 603 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 22 yards and totaled 151 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 47 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
