Mat McBriar’s Surgery Went “Well”

Calvin Watkins of ESPN DallasĀ  writes that punter Mat McBriar‘s surgery to remove a cyst from his foot was successful on Wednesday afternoon. This is what caused McBriar’s “foot drop” that cost McBriar 2 games in 2011.

It is probably a big reason that McBriar’s punt average dropped by 4 yards from 2010-2011. Before 2011, McBriar was considered one of the best punters in the league, with a yards per punt average only shorter than Shane Lechler. This year with his injury and the rise of the Colquitt brothers and San Francisco’s Andy Lee, McBriar lost status as one of the league’s elite punters. He will be a free agent in March and the prominent Cowboy blog “Blogging The Boys” has speculated that he will not be back in 2012.
