Matt Flynn A “Perfect Fit” For The Browns?

 

Earlier in the day the Cleveland Browns took their first step towards improving their anemic offense from a year ago by hiring Brad Childress as their offensive coordinator. Whether that actually improves their offense or not remains to be seen but at least they’re somewhat moving in a new direction.

NFL scout Dan Shonka told Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that the he sees Packers QB Matt Flynn as the best fit for what they’re trying to do in Cleveland.

“Matt Flynn is a perfect fit for their offense,” Shonka said. “The book on him is not big. He started one year at LSU, and I admit we had him as a fifth- or sixth-rounder. In the NFL, he has two good games — against New England and the Lions. He has great receivers in Green Bay. But I think he can play, and he is already in a West Coast offense.”

Several rumors have mentioned that the Browns should have some interest in Flynn during free agency but there’s also been speculation that they could move up for Robert Griffin III.

On the subject of taking RGIII, Shonka mentions that they’ll likely have to trade up to do so and adds that “they need too many players” to justify the move.

Instead, Shonka tosses out the idea of taking someone like LSU CB Morris Claibourne with the #4 pick and using their #22 pick on someone like Baylor WR Kendall Wright. Shonka mentions that the Browns should be able to address some of their other needs in the middle rounds like running back, right tackle and possibly an additional defensive end.

Cleveland has positioned themselves perfectly to address a number of roster needs so we’ll have to see what exactly they choose to do in the coming months.
